This double hemisphere worldmap is among the earliest maps to depict both of Abel Tasman's Voyages to Australia and New Zealand and among the earliest to depict the New Zealand and Australian Coastlines, based upon a confirmed visit.
California shown as an island, the west coast is depicted as far as C. Mendocino. With the northern cost showing a massive land bridge extending nearly to Japan and the Asian Coastline, with a narrow straits of Anian. Terra Australis is absent altogether. An important map for Austalian and New Zealand collectors.

The map has the same title as the early Visscher bible-worldmaps (Shirley 401 and 414), it has the same decorations in the 4 corners as the famous large format Vissscher-Berchem world map (Shirley 406) of 1656.

Dare to go in Black. All early maps are printed in black and white and many were kept that way for a long time. A black and white map in an early and strong impression is a rarity now-a-days with so many being recently coloured up !
