Description
Large color lithographed propaganda World War 1 poster. Designed by the illustrator Faivre Abel (1867-1945). A solder placing the French flag on a globe.
English translation: "The 3rd National Defense Loan. Crédit Lyonnais. Subscribe."
During the First World War, French savings were used through annual national loans (November 1915, October 1916, 1917 and 1918). These initiatives meet a dual need. The first is, of course, to finance a war made particularly costly by the combined effect of its length, the scale of the necessary means and its industrial character. But this challenge coexists with another, that of the mobilization of society as a whole.
This poster was intended for display, for example in bank branches where the loan could be subscribed. "Draughtsmen, engravers, painters, cartoonists vied with each other to compose posters designed to stimulate patriotism and generosity" (Jean-Jacques Becker and Serge Berstein, "Victoire et frustrations," 83).

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
We charge only one shipping fee when you have been successful on multiple items or when you want to combine gallery and auction purchases.
