Description
Very rare state: probably separately issued. Published the same year as the Treaty of Paris, this is one of the first maps to show printed boundary lines for the newly recognized United States.Â
This state of the map is not found in the standard published atlases and was evidently a special publication occasioned by the great event.
Also, in this state, the map's title was changed to include the name (in French) for the United States. "Etats Unis" also appears on the map itself.
Much other new information and place-names were added to this state, including I.Shelrock on the Tropic of Cancer and configuration of Great Lakes as d'Anville (not Bellin as previous states); Is. Bermudes and Indian tribes around the Ohio region added; adds place names along the east coast, e.g., Newport, N York, Delaware.

The map is particularly interesting for collectors of early United States cartography because it records North America's political transformation following the American Revolution and the Treaty of Paris of 1783. Maps published during these years are among the earliest European printed maps to incorporate the United States as an independent political entity.

Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.
