Description

A lovely miniature map the Arabian Peninsular, published by Petrus Bertius, and published in Amsterdam at the beginning of the seventeenth century. With an attractive strap-work title, and with detailed topography and information. The map of 'Ormus' is that of the Kingdom of Ormus, established by Arab princes in the tenth century, before becoming a part of the Portuguese Empire much later. It was what is now most of the Persian Gulf.

Bertius (1565-1629) was a Flemish cartographer, theologian, historian and geographer. Although he published much in the fields of history, theology and mathematics, he is perhaps best known as a cartographer.
His works were heavily influenced by the earlier works of Mercator, which date from the late sixteenth century. He was connected by marriage to Jacobus Hondius and Pieter van den Keere, both excellent cartographers, who would influence his later life.
He was ‘Cosmographer’ to the court of King Louis XIII.

We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
