Description
It is both a map but also a group of city views including nine cities and towns and including two that are fortresses. The city in the bottom left corner is Asov and it is shown as a protected fortress. The buildings in the cities are very finely engraved for their size and many of the buildings are labeled and some have miniature people at work or at play. There are 24 finely engraved ships on the seas or at port. At the far middle right there appears to be Neptune sitting on a rock. The decorative box at the bottom right has old men on either side (possibly Neptune) sitting on shelves. There is a sun at the top right (with a crest in it) that appears to be splashing out of the sea. It does not appear that north is up on the map as Azov is shown below the Black Sea as it is actually north of the sea. Obviously, the cartographer took much creative license.
The map is dated 1775 in the lower left corner and may have the name of the engraver? This means that it is from the time of Catharine the Great and 50 years after the time of Peter the Great.

We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
