Description

Uncommon map of the coast of Montenegro with the bay and town of Kotor (citta di Cataro) and Dubrovnik (cita di Ragusi) with Venetian war ships in the foreground. From Giovanni Francesco Camocio's rare " Isole Famose porti, fortezze, e terre maritime . . ." issued by Bertelli. The second state, includes plate number 19 in the upper right corner.

This plate was made by Giovanni Francesco Camocio (1501 - 1575) and was included in his isolari first issued without title page and assembled to order during the late 1560s and 1570s. Camocio is believed to have died during the plague outbreak at Venice in 1575, after which many of his plates passed into the stock of Donato Bertelli, who added plate numbers. Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century, then "colored", or "attractive colors" will be used.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
