Very rare first Italian edition issued in Brescia in 1598 by Pietro Marchetti. ; l theatro del mondo... Nel quale distinamenti si dimostrano in tavole tutte le provincie, regni, & paesi del mondo, al presente conosciuri; con la descrittione delle citta, castelli, monti, mari, laghi, & fiumi di essi; le popolationi, i costumi, le ricchezze, & altri particolari desiderabili. Ridotto dalla forma grande in qvesta piccola, per maggior commodità di ogniuno. Con una tavola delle cose piu degne che nell opera si contengono. Brescia (appresso la Compagnia Bresciana) 1598.
Abraham Ortelius, cartographer and publisher from Antwerp who published the first modern uniform atlas in 1570. In this edition Ortelius original plates were re-engraved in 1598 in Brescia for the Italian market. Italian titles were also added before the maps were published in "Il Theatro Del Mondo" by Pietro Marchetti. The Italian publication was then re-issued several times until 1724.
The following maps are of American interest:

- Europa ["Gronlandiae pars]
- Americae sive novi orbis nova descriptio
- Tartariae sive magni chami regni tipus [Americae vel nov: orbis pars]
- Indiae orientalis insularumque adiacientium tiipus [Americae sive Indie]

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
We charge only one shipping fee when you have been successful on multiple items or when you want to combine gallery and auction purchases.
