Description
This voyage was undertaken to convey the English embassy, under the leadership of Lord Amherst, to China. M'Leod, who was surgeon on the ship, describes the voyage out, the various calls in the East Indies, including touching at Batavia, surveying off Korea, the visit to Okinawa, another to Manila, and the shipwreck off the coast of Sumatra, and subsequent rescue from Malay pirates. The ship stopped in particular on the Okinawa archipelago (Lew Chew).
Very decorative contemporary binding in full contemporary green long-grained morocco, seven raised bands with highly decorated compartments, boards decorated with a rich frame, four large fan-shaped gilt-tooled motifs in the corners, and two blind stamped motifs. Large inner frame with gilt-tooled roulettes, blue silk guard, fillet on the fore-edges and gilt edges.

Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
