Description
He describes his calculation of the circumference of the earth, and how long it would take to walk around the world disregarding mountains and other barriers (1350 days). He instructs the reader on meridians and parallels, on the Equator, the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, and the Arctic and Antarctic circles. Münster takes the terraqueous globe , and divides it by continent, explaining which seas and rivers separate each from the other, juxtaposing it with the knowledge of ancient writers such as Ptolemaeus, of whom we also find a woodcut illustration.
In this section, he also provides instructions and illustrations on practical surveying. His objective was to obtain the correct latitude and longitude of cities and landmarks, and to determine the distances and bearings between them. He discusses how he was able to find the distance between Basel and the Danube, using the third point of Offenburg. He illustrates the use of a rudimentary form of triangulation (determining the location of a point by intersection from two different points of observation), and traverse (a method of surveying using previous surveyed points as a basis surveying the next point). Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
