Description
Buchon's historical map of the United States. It shows the original 13 states, and Vermont in pink, Florida (acquired by the U.S. from Spain in 1819) is seen in a light orange color, the middle states and territories in the Appalachian West (land conferred by Britain in 1783) are colored in green. The vast western territories, beyond the Mississippi, are in yellow. The coloring was an important and necessary component to the purpose of the map.
The map shows the development of the United States a few generations after the American Revolution. Each state and territory is marked, its capitol is denoted, plus the dates of their entry into Union, and in addition, statistics as to their populations and geographic size are shown. By 1825, some of the lands east of the Mississippi have already been divided into states, however, the Northwest Territory still exits. The huge Louisiana Territory (Ancienne Louisiane acquise de la France) - land purchased from France in 1803, occupies the lands between the Mississippi and the Rockies. The states of Louisiana and Missouri have been constituted. The Oregon Territory is shown occupying the Pacific Northwest.
A note below the maps states that the population of the U.S.A. in 1790 was almost 4 million people, by 1820, this had risen to over 9.6 million people.

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
We charge only one shipping fee when you have been successful on multiple items or when you want to combine gallery and auction purchases.
