Description
The atlas was first issued in 1689 and was the bible for navigators in North American waters for a hundred years.
This particular chart by Captain Henry Barnsley was first included in the 1764 edition. It replaced the Southack chart and centered more on the coast of New England and shows none of the present Canadian coastline. It did not appear for long being replaced itself by a John Senex chart in 1775.
It did however make one further appearance alongside the Senex in the 1794 issue.
This chart illustrates the coast of New England from Cape Cod to Casco Bay and is orientated with north to the upper right to mirror the direction of the coastline which extends north eastwards. As one might expect from such a map it includes numerous depth sounds, shoals and other navigational hazards. Upper right may be found five profile views.
The left hand sheet is taken up almost entirely by the Massachusetts Bay extending northwards to Newberry. Various churches and buildings mark the sites of several towns along the coast.

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
