Description
Decorative view of the back yard formerly the V.O.C. warehouse and arsenal for the Admiralty of Amsterdam, now-a-days the Scheepvaartmuseum (Maritime Museum).
The print is giving good detail of ship building activities and a clear view of the building, now-a-days the Maritime Museum.
Engraved by Joseph Mulder (1668 - 1738 ).
From Casparus Commelin (1636-1693), "Beschryvinge van Amsterdam, zynde een naukeurige verhandelinge van desselfs eerste oorspronk uyt den huyse der heeren van Amstel, en Amstellant, haar vergrooting, rykdom, en wyze van regeeringe, tot den jare 1691." This work is based on the works by his predecessors Dapper and Van Domselaar and on materials furnished by the author's father Isaac Commelin (who gave a short description of Amsterdam in his work of 1665 about France, Spain etc.)
Commelin was a respected clergy-man in Amsterdam and had free access to the Amsterdam city archives, enabling him in completing this work and therefore it also contains much more reliable sources and official documents than the works by Dapper and Van Domselaar.
Commelin died in 1693, his work was first published posthumously in 1693-94.

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
We charge only one shipping fee when you have been successful on multiple items or when you want to combine gallery and auction purchases.
