Description

A large, uncommon map of East Asia prepared by Karl Peucker, and published by Ataria & Co. Striking and heavily annotated with information on China, Korea, Japan, and Russia, the map includes 13 insets of major ports and a view of Port Arthur.

With war flags of China and Japan. Among the trade flag of China and the National frag of Korea. In left a large table with historical and economical details about China, Russia and Japan.
In red letters a key to "Frei händelplätze (Free treaty ports/towns) and "Kohlen Stationen (places where coal could be acquire), etc.
br>Interesting folding map published during the Russo-Japanese War (1904 and 1905) fought between the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan over rival imperial ambitions in Manchuria and Korea. The major theatres of operations were the Liaodong Peninsula and Mukden in Southern Manchuria and the seas around Korea, Japan and the Yellow Sea.

Karl Peucker is perhaps best known for his contributions to scientific mapping, developing a color scale of increasing saturation with rising elevation, which is still in use today.

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
We charge only one shipping fee when you have been successful on multiple items or when you want to combine gallery and auction purchases.
