Omschrijving
A rare map showing the (Oriental) Adventures of Speed Gibson. Speed Gibson of the International Secret Police was a radio series written by Virginia Cooke. It centres on Gibson, a 15 year old boy/pilot who, through his uncle Clint Barlow, becomes a member if the I.S.P.
Speed is decribed as a typical American boy; who is interested in short wave radio, aviation, and (most of all) the I.S.P.
The radio show ran weekly from January 1937 until the May of 1940. There were a total of 178 episodes - each episode running for 15 minutes.
The series was divided into two stories; the first 100 episodes cover the story of The Menace of the Octopus - highlighting Gibson's introduction into the I.S.P. and subsequent pursuit of the The Octopus and his cohorts throughout the Orient. The second story, of the remining 78 episodes, continues with Gibson's adventures (this time) on the African continent, and his quest to find and defeat The Octopus.
In the upper left corner is the scrolled map title, (most importantly) with strict instructions as to how to use this map, and I quote: Speed Gibson will tell you how to become a First Grade Operative in the International Secret Police and earn your Certificate of Promotion. To get your promotion, it is required that you copy the messages in the spaces [boxes] below that will come to you from Speed.

This map shows the Far East, covering China, Tibet and Mongolia, with a series of eight green boxes, each with a vignette illustration on top. There is a compass in the lower right corner, and an inset map in the opposite corner of the flight path taken from the west coast of America to China, via Honolulu, Guam, The Philippines and Hong Kong.
Listen attentively and regularly to Speed's radio program for instructions as to how and where you will get these messages. By assisting Speed in this way, you will be doing your bit to help capture The Octopus. Copy the first message you get from Speed in space [box] 1 below, message 2 in space [box] 2, etc, etc.
Various bakeries issued these maps. This example was issued by Dutch-Maid Bakery Products.
