No atlases by Danckerts are known; this rare map has been preserved only in loose-sheet copies.
Cornelis Danckerts II (1603-1656) was a successful Amsterdam-based art, print, and map seller. (He called himself 'Papiere, konst en caertverkoper.') His sons Dancker II and Justus were also active in the business. The Danckerts were a well-known family comprising several engravers, cartographers, and print-sellers, beginning with the founder, Cornelis Danckerts I (1536-1595), who was also the city carpenter.
In the first half of the 17th century, the publishing houses of Hondius, Janssonius / Blaeu dominated map publishing in Europe. It is known that at the beginning of the 17th century, French publishers traveled to Amsterdam to purchase maps that were not available in Paris.
The Amsterdam publisher Cornelis Danckerts the Elder made selling trips to Paris. They was associated with Melchior Tavernier, who became the most crucial publisher in Paris at the beginning of the 17th century. The Dutch had a significant influence on him, and he likely visited Amsterdam regularly.
In 1638, he paid 500 pounds to H.Hondius and 1000 pounds to Willem Blaeu, most likely in payment for maps he sold in the depot. (Fleury, Archives Nationales documents du minutier etc. (Paris 969), vol I.p.652).
J.Boisseau copied after or used maps by H.Hondius, J.Jansson, W.Blaeu and C.Danckerts in his "Theatre de Gaules" from 1642. (Reference: Imago Mundi 32. M.Pastoureau, Imago Mundi 32).

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
We charge only one shipping fee when you have been successful on multiple items or when you want to combine gallery and auction purchases.
