Description
Broad sheet relating to the Franco-Siamese War of 1893, a conflict between the French Third Republic and the Kingdom of Siam. Auguste Pavie, French vice consul in Luang Prabang in 1886, was the chief agent in furthering French interests in Laos. His intrigues, which exploited Siamese weakness in the region and periodic invasions by Vietnamese rebels from Tonkin, heightened tensions between Bangkok and Paris. Following the conflict, the Siamese agreed to cede Laos to France, an act that led to the significant expansion of French Indochina.
This conflict succeeded the Haw wars (1865–1890), in which the Siamese attempted to pacify northern Siam and Tonkin.

From the end of the 18th century until 1810, Jean-Charles Pellerin (1756-1836), master printer in Épinal, produced card games and religious prints. As his work progressed, he abandoned the latter in favor of prints illustrating popular events, a kind of comic strip at the time.
Most of the prints were sold to the population by peddlers. They gave information and illustrated the Napoleonic saga through battle scenes or portraits of the Emperor, his family and generals.
His images are enjoying considerable success throughout France. Under the Restoration, he retired from business and left the management of his company to his son Nicolas.

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
