A visually striking and impressive pictorial map of The Holy Land, as issued by the National Savings Movement / Committee during the 1950s.
In the upper left quadrant of the map is a large scroll-like title cartouche, in the lower right quadrant there is an explanation paragraph as to why the map was produced (for use in schools as a visual aid to learning). There are a number of sea horses in the Mediterranean Sea, together with an ancient longboat, and an elaborate compass rose.
The map is littered with numerous small coloured vignette illustrations (43) depicting biblical scenes (finding Moses in the bullrushes, the flight into Egypt), ruins (Hebron, Gaza, Bosrah), temples and towers, scenes from the life of Christ (crucifixion, resurrection), and important people from the scriptures (David & Goliath, Pontius Pilate, Moses) etc.
Eleven separate regions are named, along with the Dead Sea, the Sea of Galilee, and the Waters of Merom. A wonderful easy to understand aid for teaching school age children about the bible and the Holy Land.

We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century, then "colored", or "attractive colors" will be used.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
