Condition:		Large folio volume with 6 engraved maps. (61x39cm.) Mostly light browning and some staining in places, occasional waterstaining. A few maps with marginal repairs, world map defective and with losses of image, the rare map of New Zealand cut up to the border. Contemporary boards somewhat rubbed and worn.

Description

Collection of maps including 6 engraved maps by 19th century German, French and English cartographers depicting Australia and New Zealand.

This made to order atlas contains three different maps of Australia and the very rare Vincendon Dumoulin-Dumont d'Urville map of New Zealand: "Carte générale de la Nouvelle-Zélande...1842", with 21 small subsidiary maps. An unusal set.

- Kiepert, H. Australien. Weimar, geographisches Institut, 1852. Col. in outline. 510 x 645 mm. With insets of N.S.W., Tasmania, New Zealand, Tahiti and Hawaii. (Conf. Tooley, Australia, 77 p. 228).

- Weiland, C.F. Australien nach Krusenstern… Weimar, 1846. Col. in outline. 440 x 620 mm. (conf. Tooley, Australia, 1335). With insets of New South Wales & Tasmania.

- Royal Geographical Society. Western Australia from the Latest Documents received in the Colonial Office, 1832. 375 x 328 mm. Slightly browning and water staining (left part). Rare map showing the early development of the Colony of Western Australia (hitherto known as the Swan River Colony), three years after the state became a separate colony. The map and the key figure European tracks of six separate expeditions.

- Weiland, C.F. Das Austral-Continent oder Neu Holland… Weimar, geographisches Institut, 1850. Col. in outline. 470 x 575 mm. (Conf. Tooley, Australia, 1336).

- Vincendon Dumoulin-Dumont d'Urville. Carte générale de la Nouvelle-Zélande...1842. 590 x 880 mm. Left and right side folded. Rare large map of New Zealand, with 21 Harbor plans surrounding the map based upon the reports of Dumont d'Urville. Published in Dumont d’Urville “Voyage au Pôle Sud … Atlas Hydrographique, Carte 38.

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
We charge only one shipping fee when you have been successful on multiple items or when you want to combine gallery and auction purchases.
