Description
Fine map of Asia, with decorative title cartouche flanked by two figures in Asian dress, along with flora and fauna of the continent., based on the work of Guillaume De L'Isle.
In lower left corner an inset of "to avoid too great a contraction of the scale ye supposed N. Coast of Asia is continued here" North of Japan the "Land of Jesso Discovered AD 1643" and "Company's Land" are shown as indistinct and large land masses, and north of them is an open "Eastern Ocean."
The map is of interest for the use of Sea of Korea for the sea between Korea and Japan.

The map tracks the currents in the Indian Ocean by month and also notes along the east coast of SE Asia, the Philippines. Senex includes a charming cartouche, which shows two figures in Asian dress, along with flora and fauna of the continent
John Senex's A New General Atlas of the World was, strangely. The only early 18th-century English attempt at emulating the success of the French and Dutch mapmakers' folio atlases. Other London mapmakers concentrated on very large or very small format atlases, separate issues or chart books: whereas Senex produced his maps in folio format.

Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
