Description

A fascinating plan of Tower Street Ward, one of the 25 City of London Wards. It lies close to the Tower of London.
Much of the ward was lost to Billingsgate Ward in boundary changes made in 2003. Places of interest found within the ward are: The Customs House, St. Dunstans-in-the-East (a church much destroyed by the German Blitz during WWII, its ruins and grounds are now public gardens), The Navy Office, All Hallows-by-the-Tower (the church by which Samuel Pepys watched the unfolding Great Fire of London in 1666). Ships are seen in the foreground, tied up along the River Thames.

The ancient and famous Billingsgate Fish Market is also nearby. Some of the streets have interesting names: Seething Lane, Mincing Lane, Idle Lane, Beer St. You see the coat-of-arms of the (then) Alderman of the Ward, Thomas Chitty Esq., and there is a pretty small rococo style title cartouche.
Beneath the plan are two illustrations: The East India House in Leadenhall Street and The Entrance of Westminster Hall.

We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
