Description
The map is of interest for the use of East Sea, the sea between Korea and Japan, here called "Sea of Corea". Some interesting notations are made. From his atlas "Atlas minor or a new and curious set of sixty-two maps, in which are shewn all the empires, kingdoms, countries, states, in all the known parts of the earth, with their bounds, divisions, chief cities & towns, the whole composed & laid down agreable to modern history", by Herman Moll.
The Atlas Minor was first published in 1729 and reprinted in 1732. This ed. has a new engraved title page with contents and revised maps.
Moll (ca 1654-1732) was one of the most important London mapmakers during the first half of the eighteenth century. He was possibly born in Bremen, Germany, around 1654. He moved west to London to escape the Scanian Wars. His earliest work was as an engraver for Moses Pitt on the production of the' English Atlas', a work which ultimately failed and which landed Pitt in the debtor's prison. Moll also engraved for Sir Jonas Moore, Grenville Collins, John Adair, and the Seller & Price firm. He published his first original maps in the early 1680s and had set up his own shop by the 1690s.

Condition and Coloring
We indicate the condition of each item and use our unnique HiBCoR grading system in which four key items determine a map's value: Historical Importance, Beauty, Condition/Coloring and Rarity.
Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.
