Estimated value: $100 - $160
Part two of the Caert-Thresoor has a brief description of St. Helena (which is a condensed version of Linschoten's text) accompanied by a small map titled Sancta Helena (size 120 by 85 mm; reproduced above). The plates for the first edition of the Caert-Thresoor were engraved by Pieter van den Keere.
Bertius' miniature atlas Tabularum geographicarum contractarum libri quatuor. Cum luculentis singularum tabularum explicationibus used the maps from Langenes' Caert-Thresoor but contained completely revised text.
The first edition of the Tabularum geographicarum was published in Amsterdam in 1600 and has the same Sancta Helena plate (engraved by Wright) as in the 1599 edition of the Caert-Thresoor. Subsequent editions of the Tabularum geographicarum were published in Amsterdam in 1602/3 and 1606. The Sancta Helena plate is identical in both of these editions but is slightly different to the plate in the 1600 edition.
The map shows a not unreasonable representation of the outline of St. Helena. It was evidently derived from a Portuguese source as locations on the island are named in (somewhat corrupted) Portuguese.
