Description
Peter Klasen was born in Lubeck, Germany in 1935.
He lives and works in France. From 1956 to 1959, Peter Klasen studied at the Berlin School of Fine Arts. In 1959, winner of the German Industry Patronage Prize, he obtained a scholarship and settled in Paris. Peter Klasen is in the 60s, one of the founders of the artistic movement called Nouvelle figuration or figuration narrative. He then develops a personal visual language, by exploring and reinterpreting the signs of our urban environment, and more generally of our society. The industrial theme deeply marks his work. We thus find in the paintings of Peter Klasen, elements such as pressure gauges, sheets of public works machinery, metal locks, truck tarpaulins. There are also logos, figures and photos from magazines or posters.
Painter of concrete and metallic urbanity, Peter Klasen explores the abysses and vertigo of a dehumanized society. His works are present in more than 60 museums and public collections around the world.
His works have been the subject of numerous monographs.
