Description
Traces the rail and coach routes in New South Wales, Australia. The map depicts the region from South Australia to the Pacific Ocean and from the Colony of Queensland to the Colony of Victoria.
As this is a transportation map, the focus is on railroad and coach routes. Railway lines are illustrated by solid black lines, with the dashed black lines indicating a projected railway line.
Red dashed lines are used to illustrate the coach lines. Stops along both the railroad and coach lines are labeled and marked by circles. The mileage from Sydney is also noted at each stop.
Rivers and lakes are illustrated, including the Macintyre River and the Durmareso River along the border between New South Wales and Queensland and the Murray or Hume River which forms part of the border between Victoria and New South Wales.
Three inset maps are situated along the bottom border. A map of the rail line from Sydney to Newcastle is situated in the lower left corner. Next to this map is a map of part of the western line from Blacktown to Tarana, which also includes the coach routes to the Jenolan Caves.
The inset map in the lower right corner depicts the South Coast Line from Sydney to Kiama, part of the Southern Line from Sydney to Moss Vale, and the Sydenham to Belmore Line.

We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century, then "colored", or "attractive colors" will be used.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
