Description
The map itself highlights the stark, and rugged topography of the island, it identifies cities and towns, however, they are given their Japanese names. Also depicted are railways, roads and airfields. There is an inset map of Taiwan, set in its geographical surroundings, together with red text above and below explaining the recent history of the island from Japanese annexation (1894-95) up until the (then) present day.
The reverse of the map portrays and summarizes in text the events of the Potsdam Conference, and the eventual conclusions reached by the allies. There is a photograph of officials seated around a table where U.S. president Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin are seen. There are five named pen portraits of the' Council of Foreign Ministers' (USA, GB, USSR, China, France).
Flanking the central text is a large map of the eastern hemisphere which pinpoints Hiroshima in Japan where the first atomic bomb was dropped to end the war. It is numbered 1, and it corresponds to numbers 1 - 5 in boxed text headed War News 7 Aug.

We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century, then "colored", or "attractive colors" will be used.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
