The map shows the extent of the Ottoman Empire from the Balkans to Persia, including all of Arabia and North Africa (an inset map at the lower left shows the continuation of the African coast to present-day Algeria).
There is a short text on the map regarding the Nile and its source in Ethiopia. In the bottom left hand corner is a list of Turkish rulers.

Jacques Chiquet (1673 - 1721). French cartographer. He only published two works: a small atlas, called Le Nouveau et Curieux Atlas Geographique et Historique and an atlas of France called Nouveau Atlas Française. Both were published in 1719.
Chiquet died shortly after publishing these atlases. Consequently, his works are rare. According to its title, this atlas was intended for the entertainment of emperors, kings, and princes!

Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century, then "colored", or "attractive colors" will be used.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
