Condition:		The linen map is in good shape. Creased along fold lines and minor fraying in the corners. Some faint discoloration within the sheet, concentrated primarily around Petrograd and in the margins. Small tissue weakening area in the left side.

Description

Anglo-centric cloth map of Europe produced during WWI.

Serbia, the spark that lit the conflagration of World War One, isn’t even labeled on this interesting cloth map of Europe, which shows the pre-war borders of the continent. The creator is unknown, but the production is evidently English. The text “by permission of the Manchester Guardian” alludes to the possible creator of the map from which the sheet was based.

A spectacular patriotic border shows the Union Jack entwined with flags of the Allied nations of France, Belgium and Russia in each corner. The emphasis on Britain’s great navy is reinforced with the maritime theme. A lovely relic of the contemporary commemoration of the Great War.

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
