Description
Published under the direction of Pierre Daussy Complete title "Carte du Golfe du bengale dressée par Mr daussy, ingénieur hydrographe en chef, d'après les travaux les plus récents - Publiée par ordre du Roi, sous le ministère de M. le Baron Duperré, Amiral, Pair de France, secrétaire d'Etat au département de la Marine et des Colonies - Au dépôt général de la Marine en 1839".
Pierre Daussy (1792- 1860), was a French hydrographer. Son of a naval engineer father, he entered the School of Hydrographic Engineers in August 1808 and worked in 1811-1812 to survey the coasts of the North Sea, the Scheldt to the Elbe and Lübeck, under the orders of Beautemps-Beaupré then, from 1814, to the survey of the coasts of France.
Engineer (January 1819), he became chief engineer in April 1829 and joined the Bureau des longitudes in 1839.
He is the author of numerous works on tides and chronometers as well as a table of geographical positions of the principal places of the globe (1843).
Elected to the Academy of Sciences in April 1855, director of the Dépôt général de la marine", he became president of the Geographical Society of Paris and retired in December 1852.

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
We charge only one shipping fee when you have been successful on multiple items or when you want to combine gallery and auction purchases.
