Description
A large marine chart, engraved by Juan Noguera and C.Marquerie, produced by the Direccion de Hydrografia, under the direction of Jose de Quesada, who was the then chief of cartography for the Ministry of the Navy in Madrid.
The chart has the official blind stamp/seal in the lower left corner. The chart covers a good portion of the southeastern tip of Florida, depicting from just north of Jupiter south to Miami, Hutchison Island, Key Largo. and Tavernier. Further to the south lies central Cuba.
Across to the Grand Banks, and to Andros Island, the largest island in the Bahamas, north to Grand Bahama, and then to Abaco Island. The Gulf of Providence, the New and Old Bahama Channels are named. There are plenty of small bays and islands depicted, plus plenty of important nautical soundings are given.
Strategic lighthouses throughout are indicated with small amounts of color in red and yellow. The title is in the upper right corner of the chart. This is an impressive chart of a very collectable region.

We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century, then "colored", or "attractive colors" will be used.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
