Description
A handsome map of the Arabian Peninsula drawn on a large scale on which the three classical divisions are shown with some urban centers and topographical features. A certain number of illustrations also represent animals and trees spread throughout the Arabian Peninsula. The tree symbol indicates a large oasis as in the present region of Braymi. The town of Al-Qatif (Katife) is shown far from the coast.
As Willem Blaeu died in 1638, most of his maps are actually published by his son Joan. This map carries his (engraved) signature and was actually published in volume II of a French edition of his "Le Theatre du Monde ou Nouvel Atlas", dated 1638, therefore published the last year of his life.
From early on Willem Jansz. Blaeu aimed to publish an atlas to compete with the Hondius-Jansson Atlas. By 1630, he had published at least 17 folio-size maps. Blaeu realized his plan soon after he had acquired the copper plates of the atlas maps by Jodocus Hondius. The "Appendix followed in 1630.
In 1635 he finally realized an "international edition" of a world atlas, the "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum".
The map is in a strictly contemporary coloring and of the highest level.

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
We charge only one shipping fee when you have been successful on multiple items or when you want to combine gallery and auction purchases.
