Condition: Colour lithographed poster. Folded. Printed on thin paper, some small marginal repaired tears, not affecting engraved area.

Very rare poster about the Franco-Prussian War or Franco-German War (19 July 1870 – 10 May 1871). The conflict between the Second French Empire of Napoleon III and the German states of the North German Confederation led by the Kingdom of Prussia.
Showing a map of Europe depicting a French soldier and a Russian soldier fighting an octopus topped with a German spiked helmet.
The news paper “La Revanche” was founded on 20th of October 1886. The owner Peyramont developed revanchism against Germany pushing for a recapture (reconquest ?) of the territory of Alsace-Lorraine. To promote La Revanche , Peyramont employs sandwiches men wearing the poster.
Renamed the Patriot in 1887, the news paper disappeared the same year.

Measurements exclude the margins and are provided in both millimeters and inches, with height given first.
Colour was done by hand. 'Original colours' means that the item was coloured at, or about, the time of it's original publication. When the term 'Coloured' appears, it means that the map was more recently coloured, likely in this century or at the end of last century.
