Description

This nicely colored map of the Pacific Ocean, or Oceania, is from Mitchell's" New Universal Atlas". The atlas was published by Thomas Cowperthwait in Philadelphia.
Cowperthwait acquired the rights to the "New Universal Atlas" in 1850 from Mitchell and continued annual updates until 1855.
map appears to be colored in sections, Australasia, Polynesia and the rest of the Pacific ocean. Insets in opposite corners of Hawaii and the Antarctic continent with associated remarks. With a decorative green border.

We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century, then "colored", or "attractive colors" will be used.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
