An excellent early engraving of Asia. Curious shape for Japan, with a large island north called Yeso and a coastline marked De Gamma's Land.
Numbered "No 52."; Decorative title cartouche includes palm tree, with village scene in background. Prime meridian at London.

The map is of interest for the use of Sea of Korea, the sea between Korea and Japan. An early imprint. Decorative title cartouche at bottom left.

Emanuel Bowen was an English engraver, publisher and maps seller, active in London between 1720 and 1767. His prolific output both as engraver and publisher earned him recognition both in England and France, for he held the dual appointment of engraver both to George II and Louis XV of France.
