Detailed map of Japan and including Korea. Japan with good detail, gold mines and more. An island in the Pacific is called "Fatsisio, or Unhappy I. The Place of Exile for the Japanese Grandees. The prime meridian at Greenwich.
The interior of Korea has been left blank, except for a scale in British and Japanese miles.
The map is of interest for the use of Sea of Corea, the sea between Korea and Japan.

Engraved by Henry Schenck Tanner (1786-1858), signed in lower right corner. Included in Aaron Arrowsmith' atlas, published in Philadelphia and London (Longman, Hurst, Rees & Orme)

Aaron Arrowsmith, (born July 14, 1750, Winston, Durham, Eng.ódied April 23, 1823, London), British geographer and cartographer who engraved and published many fine maps and atlases based on the best available sources of the day.
Without a formal education Arrowsmith went to London c. 1770 and found work as a surveyor with the well-known cartographer John Cary. He than established himself as a mapmaker and publisher.
