Condition: Contemp. Vellum binding (320 x 210mm.) with 21 folded maps, numbered by hand on verso. At the end hand written index with 30 titles, so a few maps are missing. Book block separted from binding. Maps browned, some with tears. Sold as collection of maps.

Homann composite atlas including a double-hemispherical world map, continental maps of Europe, Africa and Asia, and region specific maps of most European countries, like Scandinavia, Belgium, Low Countries. Map of Turkish Empire.
Johann Baptist Homann (1663-1724) was a German engraver and publisher, who established himself and his family as perhaps the most famous German map publishers. Following his death in 1724, the business continued under the name Homann Heirs .
This Homann map is finely engraved, and in colour with an attractive cartouche. There is an enormous amount of detail within the map area.
