Showing the Northern hemisphere with North America, the Arctic, the Pacific, Asia and Europe after the cartographic source by the French map maker Guillaume De Isle.
The rare issue by Reiner and Josua Ottens. The map is interesting as it shows recently discovered islands in the Sea of Kamchatka, north of Japan, according to a text panel upper left : Corrigée de nouveau sur la carte de M. Johannes Kyrilow, premier secretaire du conseil de l'empirede Russie, mise au jour depuis peu, et ou est indique le Païs de Kamschatka, d'où le capitaine Spanberg, en 16 jours de temps a voyagé vers quelques iles que l'on présume appartenir au Japon. The same text in Dutch in upper right corner.

The map is of interest for the use of Mer de Corée, the sea between Korea and Japan.

Joachim Ottens (1663 - 1719) and his sons Renier and Joshua were prominent Dutch booksellers and map publishers from about 1680 to 1790. Joachim, the founder of the firm, was initially employed as a copperplate engraver by Frederick de Wit. In 1711 Joachim founded his own firm. Though Joachim died only a few years later, his sons Renier and Joshua took over the firm and presided over its most prolific period.
