A graphic scene of fighting and extreme violence. One man is seen covered in feathers, before being sacrificed and killed before the Brazilian tribe of Tupinamba.

The women make a thick soup from the intestines and the head, which is shared it out among themselves and their children. After killing the prisoner, the chief gave himself a new name and scratched the top of his arm with an animal’s tooth so as to leave an honoured scar.

Amsterdam, 1635, In original colours.. 376x487mm. Paper washed, colours freshed-up. Split in lower part center fold [2 cm into the engraved area] and slightly pierced in the lower margin, expertly repaired. A good and dark impression.
A decorative map with a title cartouche of two natives: in the interior is an inset of Baya de todos os Sanctos (Salvador), indigenous wild life and cannibal scenes.
