Very rare separately published "Lafreri" map of Africa. The title in typical Italian scrollwork surmounted by two Cupids in the lower Atlantic. A dedication to Francesco Moresini on a rectangular scroll, lower right corner.
Cartographically, this map is a close copy of the Ortelius 1570 map of Africa which in turn followed the Gastaldi eight-sheet wall map of 1654.The Nile originates from a single Lake - Zaflan. The southern portion of the continent is sharply pointed.Coast of Brazil is present.
Three galleons, a sea monster and a fish and a compass rose are depicted. Notes on the island of Madagascar are appended to the east of the island. The script is characteristically overly ornate for the period.

Richard Betz call only for two institutional and one collectors copy, a rare map only known in a handful examples.
