This rare tectonic earth globe was one of the first globes beautifully illustrating the novel theory of plate tectonics at the time.
The science of plate tectonics describes the large-scale motion of the seven large plates of the Earth's lithosphere (i.e. crust). It builds on the concepts of continental drift and seafloor spreading. This theory was developed and proven during the sixties of last century. It is considered as the main breakthrough of the last century in the understanding of the earth.
Soon after plate-tectonics became main stream Kurt Zeising issued his tectonic globe in 1972.

The 33cm-diameter globe is comprised of twelve gores and two polar calottes. The cartouche reads TECTONIC GLOBE OF THE EARTH by Kurt Ziesing Scale 1:38 600 000 Redacted by W. Thiele Edited by VEB Hermann Haack Geographisch-Kartographische Anstalt Gotha/Leipzig. The continents and oceans are overlain by coloured regions depicting the different geological units such as plate boundaries, subduction zones, rift valleys, arch volcanism, mid-oceanic ridges etc.
Due to its size additional shipping costs will be added : Europe +60$, America + 80$, Asia + 150$.
