An interesting and unusual print of the various costumes from Dithmarschen and the surrounding areas. This print is made up of three rows of assorted costumed peoples. Some slight commentary accompanies each set of costumes.
The figures are from left to right: armed men, married and unmarried women from Dithmarschen, and married and unmarried women from Eiderstedt, followed by various styles of dress from Eiderstedt, Ockholm, Nordstrand and Haderstedt, and finally by dress from the islands of Fohr, Sildia and Stapelholm.

The "Civitates" was compiled and written by George Braun, Canon of Cologne Cathedral. Braun gathered together vast amounts of information and draft plans to produce over 500 city views/maps published in six parts between 1572 and 1617. Most of these engravings were made by Simon Novellanus and Frans Hogenberg, many after drawings by Joris Hoefnagel.
Dithmarschen in now part of Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany.
