Unrecorded very large double hemisphere world map from the second half of the XVIII century. The map closely resembles in its geographical features that of the Parisian publisher Clouet. However, the names are in Portuguese. Title cartouche and armillary sphere also different from the embellishment of Clouet's wall map.
Probably, it was an attempt to publish that map (whose text is in French and Spanish) in a Portuguese version. No other examples of this map are known.
The map shows several interesting features. Among them, remarkable is the fact that the arctic regions, in both hemispheres, are indicated as "terras antarticas"

The map shows a large open sea in California (Sea of the West) and according to Donald L. McGuirk in a Buache type 2, Mer de l’Ouest which was Buache’s own response to the criticisms of his first (1750) concept of a Mer de l’Ouest. It first appeared c. 1754.

Notable for its detail of Hokkaido, the first printed map to use the detailed manuscript charts of Maarten de Vries from his voyage to the region in 1643. Spanish stories on gold- and silver islands east of Japan induced the eager-for-expansion governor-general Anthonie van Diemen to the decision to send Abel Jansz Tasman (1639) and Maarten de Vries (1643) to this region. Both of them found no gold but de Vries surveyed the islands to the north of Japan, especially the sweeping curve of southern Hokkaido. Importantly, the expedition also touched upon the southernmost islands of the Kuriles. The northern Japanese island of Hokkaido and Sakhalin to the north are shown joined -it was not until La Perouse's expedition in the latter years of the 18th century that this misconception was rectified.

In the Pacific we see Hawaii with the track of Captain Cook and Tasman, etc. New Zealand only with its Eastern coastline and "Bahia des Assassinos. A large text box with text : Pais m.to Elvado segundo Abel Tasman e que se considera como a cabeca das Montanhas que se sepasestar junto das Costas destas Terras descoanhe didas circulando o Grande Mar e corredponder aos ..."

Australia's Van Diemen's Land is joined to the main land by a dotted line. Starting from van Diemensland there is a firm coast line of Western Australia and TARRA AUSTRAL DO ESPIRITO SANTO, among the rivers R. Jordan and R. San Salvador.
The West coast with the classical names translated to Portuguese except "Sharksbay" - The area was given the name Shark Bay by the English explorer William Dampier, on 7 August 1699. ¤
