Condition: Stone engravings. Four folio tables. Good condition with some very light marginal spotting.

Four geographical maps of the islands of Japan entitled: Nippon io tsi ko Tei sen-Tsu. . These charts include 3 large islands of Japan: NIPPON, KIOUSIOU and SIKOKF with the adjacent small islands. This work was completed under the auspices of the magistrate of the Dutch Indies. The king of Holland gave in reward to the skilful Chinese engraver, Ko- Tsching Dschang, a gold medal. This skillful calligrapher transcribed the originals to stone engravings during 5 years. He was born in 1802 in the province of Fokien.

The first chart is entitled: Insularum Japonicarum tabulae geographicae secundum opus nippon jo tsi ro tei sen tsu. Tab. 1 Kiusiu insulam cum adjacentibus minoribus et insulae nippon partem occidentalem repraesentans.. The first chart includes the island of Kiousiou and other small islands located in the Western part of the island of Nippon.

The second chart entitled : Tab. 2 Sikok insulam et insulae nippon partem mediam representans. The second chart includes the island of Sikokf and a part of Nippon.
The third chart is entitled: Tab. 3 Insulae nippon partem orientalem repraesentans. The third chart includes the eastern part of the island of Nippon.

Tab. 4 Insulae nippon partem septentrionalem repraesentans. The fourth chart includes the northern part of Nippon and Jeso.
Details of these charts : degrees and longitudes and latitudes, names and terminals of the sixty eight provinces (kuni) and of all the parts of these provinces, cities, villages, seaports and stations of the vessels, religious sites and other famous places, monuments, major mountains, rivers and lakes.
