A large and elegant map of the Caspian Sea and including the modern day nations of Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey.
In 1721 Peter the Great presented the French Royal Academy with a copy of S. I. Soimonov and Carl Vanverden's map of the Caspian region which was used by Delisle.
Delisle was an important French cartographer of the early 18th century. He held the position of First Royal Geographer to the King. This interesting map of the surrounding countries of the Caspian Sea has the Black Sea in the west and Tartary in the east, Iraq in the south and Russia in the north.

Decorative cartouche upper right corner in which it is explained that this map was made at the order of the Czar using the manuscripts of Soskam Sabbas, Prince of Georgia as well as a large number of “intelligent people”. Scale top center.
