U unrecorded state Homann's map is based upon the works of George von Mengden (1628-1702) a Livonian cartographer who worked for Peter the Great and Count Jacob Bruce [Graf Jakov Villimovic Brjus] (1670-1737), a Russian Field Marshal of Scots descent who produced with Mengden the first map of South Russia (1699) printed in Russian. The map was constantly updated to depict the political changes.
With decorative cartouche. Giving good detail along the river Dnieper. In lower left Istanbul.

A border line is running along a imaginary river "Lecop Syl et Cuban fl" from Taman island (in fact a peninsula). Taman island is shown as an island)
The decorated title cartouche has been re-engraved.

Crimea and Ukraine now named "Tauriae regnum Gubernium". The name "Cremia" is no longer appearing on the map. Several place names are added, others disappeared. "Polboerno" is now called "Kinburn". "Koslof" is now "Göslewe". New are Baluklawa (Balaklava) and Sudak, (Kaffa) nunc Theodosia, etc are added. In 1462 Caffa placed itself under the protection of King Casimir IV. Because the Genoese started intervening in the internal affairs of the Crimean Khanate, a Turkish vassal, the Ottoman commander Gedik Ahmet Pasha seized the city in 1475. Renamed Kefe, Caffa became one of the most important Turkish ports on the Black Sea.
The map has extensive manuscript notations on the verso. On recto also noatations in brown ink are made. Near Ochakov and Kinburn, crossed swords and a human face are drawn in.
