Title : Carte de l'Empire d'Allemagne ou sont marquees exactement les routes des postes..
Map maker : VAUGONDY, G.,.
Date : Paris, 1757.
Size : 19.7 x 22.0 inches. / 50.0 x 56.0 cm.
Colouring : Original Colors with border & cartouche enhanced

Description :A stunning, scarce 1757 map of the German Empire by Robert de Vaugondy. It covers from Dunkirk in the east of France to Elblag in Poland, and south as far as the Gulf of Venice and Geneva, to include the modern day countries of Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Czech republic, Slovenia, Austria as well as parts of Italy, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.

Most postal routes are noted throughout including towns and cities along the routes. The Imperial Circles are also identified.
A very pleasing engraved title cartouche adorns the bottom left quadrant. It features a mailman on horseback delivering mail. This map was issued in the 1757 edition of the “Atlas Universal”. The Atlas Universal was one of the first atlases based upon actual surveys. Therefore, this map is highly accurate (for the period).

Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1688–1766), was also known as Le Sieur or Monsieur Robert, and his son, Didier Robert de Vaugondy (c.1723–1786), were leading cartographers in France during the 18th century.
In 1757, Gilles and Didier Robert De Vaugondy published “the Atlas Universel”, one of the most important atlases of the 18th century. To produce the atlas, the Vaugondy's integrated older sources with more modern surveyed maps.
They verified and corrected the latitude and longitude of many regional maps.

Condition : In fine condition on heavy hand made, chain-linked paper.
