Description :Uncommon miniature map of California as a island, from Pierre Duval's La Géographie Universelle dated 1676. The map is derived from Audience de Guadalajara , 1657, by his uncle, Nicolas Sanson. Differences are the presence of Destroit D'Anian , and various unnamed mountain ranges. A third state with lower right Nouvelle Espagne ou= Mexique added.
Map shows place names on the west coast, including Drake's Bay, Monterey, Pt. Concepcion, San Clemente Island and Cabo San Luca. Quivera, Anian and N. Albion are named, along with Cibola. Lac de Conibas is shown. East of the Mountain range in New Meixo, the Apaches, "Vaqueros mont suala" and Poala are shown.
