Description :Decorative map of the North Pole, prepared by Louis Vivien de Saint-Martin (* 22. Mai 1802 in Saint-Martin de Fontenay, died 3 January 1897 in Paris). He was one of the most important French geographers of the end of the 19th century.
Engraved by C.E.Collin and printed by Chardon. Published by Hachette and company. Practically every major French geographer in the second half of the 19th century published with Hachette. The publishing house may well be considered the main agency for the production of geographic knowledge in France before the discipline was institutionalized at French universities.
Together with the map the often missing overlay with the Arctic expedition of captain Nzres (1875-1876).
