Description :Very decorative plate showing the different positions of the earth during the year in relation to the sun. Showing the proportions of earth and moon, and moon and sun, daily positions of moon and earth, etc.
From Atlas Universel de Géographie construit d'après les sources originales et les documents les plus récents. . ., by Louis Vivien de Saint-Martin (* 22. Mai 1802 in Saint-Martin de Fontenay, died 3 January 1897 in Paris). He was one of the most important French geographers of the end of the 19th century.
Engraved by C.E.Collin and printed by Chardon. Published by Hachette and company. Practically every major French geographer in the second half of the 19th century published with Hachette. The publishing house may well be considered the main agency for the production of geographic knowledge in France before the discipline was institutionalized at French universities.
Condition : In very good to mint condition.
