Description :Map of the region of Northern Italy, highlighting the areas of Gallia Transpadana, the region inhabited by the Celts between the Padus (now called Po River) and the Swiss Alps to the north. The region of Gallia Cispadana is located south of the Po River. The different regions of the map are highly colorful and it has a yellow border. The decorative cartouche has costumed peoples on either side, and in the lower right corner a man on horseback is seen with an angel flying by his side.
Striking, vibrant, original color.
The Amsterdam publishing company Covens and Mortier, arguably the most well known and prosperous company of their time. Jean Covens and Corneille Mortier were brothers-in-law, who continued the publishing business that Pierre Mortier began in 1685. In 1721, after the death of the elder Mortier, Corneille and Jean Covens formed a partnership and began to collaborate with maps from previous cartographers such as Sanson, Jaillot and De Wit, or reissue the same maps under their new publishing company name.

Condition : Faint staining and foxing throughout, mainly concentrated with light discoloration around edges.
