Description : A lovely and well engraved plan of Istanbul. A large inset features a bird's-eye view of the Bosphorus with several ships in the foreground framed with an allegorical cartouche, clearly inspired by the oriental world using symbols like the half-moon and the oil lamp. Wisdom and knowledge is also depicted using a book and a terrestrial globe.
The decorative and spectacular panoramic view of the city in the lower part, shows the former Christian church Hagia-Sophia, the Blue Mosque in front of which stands three Egyptian obelisks which the Romans brought to the city, Sultan Suleyman's Mosque and the Serail - the palace of the sultan.
In the middle the Bosporus and the old Roman city wall which nearly was a ruin in the beginning of the 18th century.

Condition : Light browning in the right hand half. Repair of split in the extremities of horizontal fold, respectively 4 cm (left) and 4,7 cm (right) into the image. 2 brown spots upper part of the map. Lower margin cut along border frame.
